Harbour City Lions Club have recently joined other local businesses, associations and individuals in sponsoring a horse at Tauranga RDA. Honey, a gentle, bay mare, who has proved to be a favourite amongst the children and staff, will benefit from a 12 month  sponsorship from the club.

 

CEO of Tauranga RDA, Kat Macmillan says “We are very grateful for the generous support from Harbour City Lions. This donation will help us to continue the training we are doing with Harbour City Honey and cover the costs of feed, hoof and veterinary care for her. Since Harbour City Honey has been with us she has worked with children and adults with a variety of disabilities, and they all benefit from her steady nature.”

 

Other sponsors of Tauranga RDA include Bay Orchard Sprayers, who sponsor tiny pony, Bay Orchard Missy, Skidby, a local racehorse who has befriended Red, Ballance Agri Nutrients, Whelleans Ground Spread and Waikato Stud. Volunteers Barbara Jones and the De Graaf and Henderson families also generously sponsor a horse each.

 

With 12 horses to look after and train, Tauranga RDA continues to seek sponsorship for new horses Mr Chips, Arthur and Big Boy. Annual sponsorship is $2,000 and RDA Tauranga is a registered charity, so donations are tax deductable.

 

Kat concludes, “Each week almost a hundred children and adults with disabilities, mental health or social problems benefit from the therapeutic riding and horse care programmes Tauranga RDA runs. This is made possible thanks to our wonderful and sponsors and funders whose support enables us to train and look after the therapy horses.”
